Top-Paying Short-Term CDs Open To All

A Virginia-based credit union is luring savers across the country into its fold with a pair of stellar short-term CD deals.

Chartway Federal Credit Union is paying 1.51% APY on a special 7-month CD and 1.76% APY for 11 months.

Both certificates of deposit require a $25,000 minimum investment and are available only to new members.

With the top nationally available yields from the banks on our CD Rates Leaderboard currently standing at 1.05% APY for 6 months and 1.30% APY for 1 year, Chartway is dwarfing the national competition.

The promotions also earn Chartway two prominent spots in our roundup of the country’s top-paying credit union and community bank CDs.

In addition to operating more than three dozen branches in Virginia, Texas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Rhode Island, Chartway includes 17 Utah branches that carry the names HeritageWest Credit Union and SouthWest Community Credit Union.

Membership in Chartway, HeritageWest and SouthWest Community is immediately extended to anyone who lives or works within the vicinity of one of its branches or who works for one of 750 affiliated employers.

But anyone else can qualify by simply donating $10 to Chartway’s philanthropic arm, the We Promise Foundation.

Before opening any CD, always be sure to check Bankrate’s extensive database of the best CD rates to make sure you’ve found the best deal.
