CD Rates Leaderboard For September 14

We haven’t even reached the middle of the month and four of our top six CD rates have already fallen.

Two did so today.

iGObanking and Sallie Mae Bank cut what had been the leading 3-month and 12-month CD rates and been replaced on the Leaderboard by other banks offering lower returns.

The best nationally available CD rates are now:

TERM BANK RATE MIN. DEPOSIT
3-Month CDs ISN Bank 1.01% APY $10,000
6-Month CDs NewDominion Bank 1.20% APY $3,000
12-Month CDs NewDominion Bank 1.51% APY $3,000
Melrose Credit Union 1.51% APY $5,000
24-Month CDs NewDominion Bank 1.85% APY $3,000
36-Month CDs Danversbank 2.50% APY $500
60-Month CDs Melrose Credit Union 3.03% APY $5,000

All of these banks accept online applications from customers in all 50 states.

(We include Melrose in our rankings because it has a unique charter that allows anyone to join, regardless of where they live or work.)

Compare these returns with the best CD rates from scores of other banks in our extensive database.

Don’t despair, Mary. Buy a CD — even though the rates are miserable compared to a few years ago, at least you’d be making some money on what you have.

Pretty pathetic that these banks are paying these skimpy rates at a time when we are all running scared and trying to sock away as much cash as possible.

NewDominion cut it’s CD rates this morning and will drop off the next Leaderboard. We hope to have an updated Leaderboard posted in a couple of hours.
