CD Rates Leaderboard For Sept. 6, 2012: Texas-Based NexBank Offers Top CD Rates

This is a great page to bookmark so you can always find the best nationally available deals on the most popular CD rates. We have a new 24-month leader on our CD Rates Leaderboard — and it’s a bank we’ve never featured before to boot.

Welcome, Dallas-based NexBank. Savers across the United States thank you for the Southern hospitality.

With a $10,000 minimum deposit, NexBank pays 1.30% APY for 24-month CDs.

That’s enough to boost it to the top of the term, right past AloStar Bank of Commerce, which just took the lead Wednesday.

We’re also tracking NexBank rates for all of the other terms on the CD Rates Leaderboard.

NexBank, a division of NexBank Capital Inc., has two branches in Dallas and suburban Plano.

But anyone can buy its certificates of deposit online.

We have to tell you, however, we encountered some confusion with this bank.

A customer service representative told us over the phone that online CDs were available to Texas residents only. But NexBank’s deposit operations manager confirmed via email that they are indeed available nationally.

Keep in mind that a photo ID is required to open a CD. NexBank’s online application allows you to upload one during the application process. Have yours scanned and at the ready. You can also mail in or fax a copy of your ID.

Learn more about NexBank at or call 800-827-4818.

Banks qualify for our rankings by accepting deposits from all savers, regardless of where they live, either online or through the mail.

Compare this return with the best CD rates from scores of banks in our extensive database.
