CD Rates Leaderboard For Sept. 29, 2011: 24-Month CD Rates Slip, But Just A Bit

This is a great page to bookmark so you can always find the best nationally available deals on the most popular CD rates. We mentioned last week that the top nationally available 24-month CD rates were starting to bunch up.

That trend is more pronounced as banks this week trimmed fractions of a percentage point from their yields.

The best nationally available deals on our CD Rates Leaderboard now pay 1.34%. You can get that rate at either Aurora Bank or Goldwater Bank.

The big difference between the two?

Aurora Bank (, which has branches in Wilmington, Del., and Jersey City, N.J., requires a $1,000 minimum deposit. Goldwater Bank (, which has a single location in Scottsdale, Ariz., requires a $5,000 minimum deposit.

There are seven other banks that pay at least 1.30% APY.

Paying 1.31% APY are:

Ascencia Bank (, the online division of PBI Bank in Louisville, Ky., with a $500 minimum deposit.

NewDominion Bank (, a predominantly online bank with branches in Charlotte and Mooresville, N.C., with a minimum deposit of $1,000.

Paying 1.30% APY are:

AloStar Bank of Commerce (, the online bank based in Birmingham, Ala, with a $1,000 minimum deposit.

Discover Bank (, an online bank owned by the credit card company, with a $2,500 minimum deposit., the online division of Landmark Bank in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., which requires a $2,500 minimum deposit.

Stonebridge Bank (, with four branches in suburban Philadelphia, which requires a $500 minimum deposit

USAA (, a diversified financial company based in San Antonio, with a $1,000 minimum deposit.
