In the end, it drops from a tie at the top of our CD Rates Leaderboard in 36-month CDs and joins the top of the board in 24-month CDs.

Astoria is tied for the best nationally available 24-month deal, with a yield of 1.25% APY.

Astoria Federal Savings (, which has 84 branches in Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester counties, requires a $500 minimum deposit.

CIT Bank ( also pays 1.25% APY.

CIT Bank, the online consumer bank of CIT Group Inc., which offers financing to small businesses and middle-market companies, requires a $25,000 minimum deposit.

With this certificate of deposit, you can add money to your account once as well as bump up the rate once during the term.

Astoria’s rate trim in the 36-month term (it now pays 1.25% APY for this CD as well) means Doral Bank Direct owns the top nationally available 3-year CD all by itself.

It pays 1.50% APY with a $1,000 minimum deposit.
