CD Rates Leaderboard For Aug. 2, 2012: Four Banks Now Tied For Best 6-Month CD

This is a great page to bookmark so you can always find the best nationally available deals on the most popular CD rates. The gap between the best 6-month CDs is narrowing with 11 banks now offering yields within one-tenth of a percertage point of each other.

After Ascencia cut its offer this week, four of those banks are tied for the best nationally available deal on our CD Rates Leaderboard with a yield of 0.80% APY.

Unfortunately, that’s the lowest this rate has been since we started tracking the best nationally available deals.

You’ll earn the top rate at:

ableBanking (www.ablebanking.com), the online division of Northeast Bank in Lewiston, Maine, with a $1,000 minimum deposit. The bank also will make a donation on your behalf to a charity you select. It will donate $25 when you become a customer and 0.25% of your average account balances annually.

Ascencia (www.ascenciabank.com), the online division of PBI Bank in Louisville, Ky., with a $500 minimum deposit.

Colorado Federal Savings Bank (www.coloradofederalbank.com), an online bank based in Greenwood Village, Colo., with a $5,000 minimum deposit.

EH National Bank (www.ehnbank.com), which has a single branch in Beverly Hills, Calif., with a $10,000 minimum deposit.

Banks qualify for our Leaderboard rankings by accepting deposits from all savers, regardless of where they live, either online or through the mail.

We don’t include credit unions because of the restrictions they place in order to open an account.

That doesn’t necessarily make those deals any less valuable (although there are sometimes fees to join); it just means you have to jump through a few more hoops.

Compare these returns with the best CD rates from scores of banks in our extensive database.
