California Deal Tops 2% On 3-Year CDs

The Eureka-based credit union is paying up to 2% on 3-year CDs.California has proven to be a tough place to find decent local CD rates.

I spent a good number of hours clicking on bank websites throughout the Golden State, and the best CD rate I could find only ties the top nationally available 36-month CD rate on our latest CD Rates Leaderboard.

Up in redwood country, Eureka-based Coast Central Credit Union is paying 1.90% APY with a $500 minimum deposit.

Not particularly awesome for a credit union, especially one that requires a $50 deposit in a savings account to become a member.

Although, that 36-month CD rate does increase to 1.95% APY with a $10,000 minimum deposit, and to 2.00% APY with a $75,000 deposit.

Membership in Coast Central Credit Union (www.coastccu.org) is limited to those who live or work in Humboldt, Del Norte or Trinity County and members’ family members.

Members can buy these certificates of deposit over the phone or at one of Coast Central’s 12 branches in Arcata, Crescent City, Eureka, Fortuna, Hoopa, McKinleyville, Weaverville and Willow Creek.

I’ll keep looking in California, as well as in all of those other states we don’t feature local deals from often.

But Californians, if you have a local bank with great CD rates, or a favorite you think I should keep an eye on, leave a comment.

See how these returns compare with the best CD rates from scores of banks in our extensive database.
