California Deal On 2-Year CD Rates

California quarterFirst Imperial Credit Union has worthy 2-year CD rates for its Southern California members.

It pays 1.30% APY with a $500 minimum deposit.

That’s a tenth of a percentage point higher than the top nationally available 24-month CD rate on our CD Rates Leaderboard.

We recently saw this term’s lead rate sink to 1.20% APY – an all-time low.

Twelve- and 60-month CD rates at this credit union pay the same as the best nationally available bank deals at 1.05% APY and 1.85% APY, respectively.

You have to be a member of First Imperial Credit Union to buy these certificates of deposit. Anyone who works, lives or worships in the Imperial Valley near El Centro, Calif., can join.

A $5 deposit in a share savings account is required for membership.

Members have to buy CDs in person. The credit union has three branches, in Brawley, Calexico and El Centro.

Maybe this rate will become contageous, and spread north to the neighboring Coachella Valley (where I live). Bernanke clearly has more work to do to tamp down the CD rates of renegade credit unions like First Imperial! Buy up some more “assets,” Ben.
