Earn Top Deals On 38-, 50- and 62-Month CDs In Philly

A few days ago, we told Nevada and Utah savers how to score a high-paying long-term CD with about the lowest early-withdrawal penalty one could realistically hope for.

This week, suburban Philadelphia savers get their turn – at even better rates.

Boeing Helicopters Credit Union, which these days refers to itself simply as BHCU, is offering a trio of certificates that all beat the top nationally available returns from the banks on our CD Rates Leaderboard.

BHCU vs. the CD Rates Leaderboard

Term BHCU (APY) National lead (APY)
38 months 1.85% 36 months: 1.70%
50 months 2.15% 48 months: 1.87%
62 months 2.40% 60 months: 2.27%

Check Bankrate’s extensive database of the day’s best CD rates, and you’ll see that each of these is hard, if not impossible, to beat.

But here’s the additional good news: All of these BHCU certificates carry an industry-low early-withdrawal penalty of just three months’ interest.

As you’ve heard us mention more than once, buying long-term CDs right now – given the unknowns of when and how frequently the Fed will raise rates over the next few years – is best done with banks that offer as mild an early-withdrawal penalty as you can find.

Among the national banks on our Leaderboard, the lowest penalty for 60-month CDs is five months’ interest (from Ally Bank), with six months’ interest deemed reasonable.

Of course, scoring any of these BHCU certificates means you first have to become a member of the credit union. Anyone living or working in Pennsylvania’s Delaware County is eligible.

Joining BHCU and opening a CD can be done online, by phone, by mail or at its two branches in Ridley Park and Glen Mills.
