Interest rates on the Deseret MM
continue to drop much faster then
other banks. Proceed with caution.

Posted On: 4/20/2008
rates dropped as soon as I signed up.
VERY difficult to sign up. easy to apply online, but then you have to wait 2 weeks for paperwork, then return to them, then wait again for instructions to sign on, and then it doesn’t work.
sent my money almost one month ago, yet still haven’t been able to sign on to use my money!!
Much harder than other interline banks and not worth it as rates no longer that high!

Their Deseret MM has dropped again. I haven’t opened an acct yet, but customer service was helpful. Said that no notarization of DL was req’d and that acct could be funded electronically. No dollar limit on withdrawals.

Awful website with little to no information, customer support is slow and uninformed. Deposits and ACH took forever to show up.

Finally when closing the account it took 3 weeks for my closing check to show up. Apparently Utah is like a half a world away from Washington by US Mail. Glad I got away from this bank sooner rather than later. 2 months was enough for me!

It took a month to open account after numerous phone calls. The checks and ATM card are wrong. I just gave up.

The interest rate on my Money Market as of today has dropped to 3.10%

I opened up accounts for my kids as their Bank of America account paid such a low rate. Almost immediately after opening the account, they dropped the rate they paid. I could live with that because rates were trending down. Today I find they are jacking up their minimum deposit from $1000 to $2500. I’m closing my account as the only way to show my displeasure is walk. I hope others don’t put up with this BS either.

I used to work for a bank and so I know the daily balance method of calculating interest. Today my interest for the month of January was posted and the amount is incorrect as it is noticeably lower than the amount my repeated careful calculation produced. The interest for December was also lower than it should have been. This pattern of wrong calculation of lower interest amount, at least in my opinion, does not keep customers.

Easy to set up an account (from Chicago), competitive rates, easy to contact, good follow through, and just happy with the whole experience.

In addition to a lot of bad and strange restrictions and limitations on transactions & forms that you have to MAIL in, there are also treacherous hidden rules, such as long hold days of your money and that you CANNOT close your account within 90 days after opening. If you do, then you LOSE all your interest and get charged an EARLY TERMINATION FEE! Stay away from Zions Bank!

Like the previous posts said, just about EVERYTHING is by snail mail. Their online ACH money transfer system has very strange and inconvenient limitations that other banks do not have. And if you want to close your account, you have to write to them and then wait for them to mail you a check. Again, EVERYTHING is by mail. So where’s the online part??? By the way, their rates are so low right now that there’s just nothing good about banking here.

When I initiated the opening deposit from another account, they generated an in-house check and tried to cash it. When my financial institution refused to honor the check (it looked like a fraud) I was charged $5.00 for the returned check fee. When I asked about it Zions said if I deposited funds the $5.00 would be credited back to me. It has been least two weeks since I made another deposit (from another source) and a follow up phone call later – still no credit. Yes, it is only $5.00 but if that is how they are going to be about $5 I dont want to give them a chance with $10,000. Im moving my money elsewhere. Funny thing – my wife said I dont have a good feeling about them. Glad I did the research and found this website on her prompting. Great site!

What a great process, and wonderful service. Did all the money transfer and setting up on line. Personal assistant to help in the process.

incompetent!!! waiting 1 month just for the welcome packet and signature card. Id feel more confident with my money in a piggy bank.

I deposited over $80k in October to get their high (5.5%APY) interest rate. Today (Dec 31) I call to confirm Im getting that rate. NO. Turns out they dropped it to 5.13% and never told me. Now I dont trust them. I also have money at FNBO, and they are much more honest and upfront.

Snail mail deposits are WAY TOO SLOW! Their system is so archaic that it is frustrating. The high rate is worthless if you consider that fact that your money just sits there NOT earning interest while waiting for the check to be mail to Zions. I lost $100 already because of snail mail. Do not go with Zions. Their high rates dont cover the money not earned while waiting.

They call it an on-line account but everything seems to have to be done by mail. Took a month to setup account and the ability to do on-line transfers to an external account. Once setup EFT transfers are limited to $500. More than $500 requires a wire transfer or a check. The account is pretty much useless. I closed it right after I found out about the $500 limit. The high interest rates were not worth the aggrevation.

Minimum for highest rate is too high. Couldnt get this bank set up as an external account with GMAC to fund it. GMAC said this is a common problem with Zions. In the process of trying to set it up, the rate dropped twice from 5.65 to 5.23. I ended up not funding the account and now have to figure out how to close it. I do not recommend this bank.

I transferred funds and have money market and checking for over a year. This bank is wonderful for service. Online banking works well too. Only problem is mail deposits, I think are to slow.

Still had to use snail mail to open accounts, but enjoy good, solid earnings and easy (after set-up) access.

nice rate.

Posted On: 10/27/2007
Super long setup, weird limits on EFT/ACH transfers initiated at Zions — ING transfers and withdraws from Zions with no limits! :-)

zions desert money market is one of the highest rates out there. was getting 5.56% for awhile now. you will need to send in ID though.

Posted On: 10/22/2007
Asked for notarized copy of drivers license AFTER I sent in my money. Not asled for in application. I told then to cease work and return my checks. A real sorry operation.

this bank has been great .Easy to communicate with by phone,I have online savings and checking and all works great plus the highest rates around. An a1 bank

Posted On: 10/06/2007
Startup isnt easy. They like detail. But who cares with the result of 5.56 APY.

Posted On: 10/03/2007
They asked for notarized state ID or drivers license after I had submitted the initial deposit. That left my money in limbo until this verification was complete. What a scam! This was never disclosed in the application.

Posted On: 8/30/2007
I wanted to set up an account with them even completed the application. You have to mail in your initial deposit. I , then, called a rep. to ask if all transactions will have to be by mail and was informed that itis only the initial one. I also inquired about what the review dated 7/19 said and was told that was true.

Account setup took weeks; customer service reps not very knowledgeable. In addition, Zions doesnt seem to inform that ACH withdrawals are limited to $500; Hence, you can only ACH withdraw $3,000 a month via ACH with the 6 withdrawals per month limitation.

Too hig a minimum. Problems getting account set up

nice money market rate, if you got that kind of dough!
