ETRADE Bank Reviews & Ratings
transfers take around 4 days,
The rate is only 3.45%, but I like this bank because the interest is compounded daily. It is a good place to store your unused money.
Yes, the drop from 4.1% to 3.45% recently wasn’t good, but I feel will even out in the end. With all of E-Trades other features, it has been the clear winner for me.
Disappointed to see such a large drop in percentage rate (4.1 to 3.45)–understand that rates vary but this is a big change and puts Etrade more middle of the road.
How’s 0% interest, because that is all I have received since sending E-Trade a check 33 days ago.
Put your money in a coffee can and bury it in the ground. This will save you alot of headaches and earn you the same interest rate.
if others don’t drop… i have no clue where to go…
wamu is terrible… they claim they are soooooo genuinely free!!! but they ARE NOT FREE at all…
so many fees and restrictions…
limit of 6 transactions in and out are terrible.. only transactions done online don’t count…
making card payments, direct deposit from employer, taking $$ in and out a couple times will easily let WAMU charge you 10 bux a month
their CS really sux too…. u’ll almost always get copy&paste replies
When opening, even after you put all your information in, and are told that it will be 1-3 business days to get your information, you will get absolutely nothing from them.
Then after a week, if you call, they will ask for a copy of your ID and SSN card (if you have a joint name on your account, they will ask for theirs) Then if you send it in, you will get no correspondence. When you call again, you must provide them a date and time, and what number you sent the fax to. Then after 15 minutes, the rep will find it and say they will forward it to the account opening department.
3 weeks later, you will get a call, saying that need to call them back to verify more info.
If you call back, they will want you to send more ID and SSN cards for whomever else is on the account. If you refuse and ask them to cancel your application, they will say ok and hang up rudely.
Then two weeks later, you will get an email that says the account is now opened. The other account you put to fund the new etrade account will be deducted whatever amount.
If you dare, only put the minimum $1… Dont risk anything more than that!!
Shopper Beware… ING Direct was opened one week after I opened this account. They took one day to complete and it was ready to go. No BS about sending ID, SSN, etc…
ACH transfers are fast. If I initiate the transaction Friday morning, sometimes both the account I’m withdrawing from and my etrade account will earn interest on the same funds over the weekend!
I’ve had no problems since.
The next problem came when I tried to make a link between my external checking account and my e-trade savings. The message was “no eligible e-mail address” or something like that. I called customer service and the pleasant sounding man fixed the problem. I’m not sure why this account was such a pain to get started but I had no problem with their customer service. Hopefully, I’ll have no more problems.
It only took 2 days for my money to transfer from my external checking to the e-trade savings. So far, so good now that I’m set up. Can’t beat their rate.
When it finally did go through I tried to access my account on the website, it was unable to find my account number (even though I was logged in and it showed a balance). I called their support and was put on and off hold for 2 hours while they tried to work out the problem. After being transferred among 3 different reps the person on the phone actually asked me what my password to access the site was.
Security 101: The customer service don’t need your password to access anything. This is true for any website, and there is no excuse that a financial institution would have such lax security. I had no faith in the company to handle my money after all this.
After faxing in my driver’s license and waiting about 5 days without anything happening, I figured Etrade was never going to open the account and had probably forgotten about me. I then applied at another bank and got my account set up and funded within a day.
After setting up an account with this new bank, I noticed that there was a pending transfer to Etrade showing on my checking account. So Etrade had finally decided to fund my account…but I didn’t want them to anymore. I called Etrade and asked if they could just cancel the transfer before it went through. The customer service lady said that they couldn’t do that, but my funds should be in the account and available for withdraw in 7 business days. So I waited…and waited… 10 days later, still no funds showing in my Etrade savings account. After numerous calls and weeks of waiting, with me receiving the same “I’m sorry about the inconvenience sir. Your funds should be available in the next few days” excuse, I was finally able to get my money out of this incompetent bank.
TAKES WEEKS TO SET UP AN ACCOUNT AND ANOTHER 2 WEEKS TO GET YOUR MONEY OUT. BANK AT YOUR OWN RISK!
E-trade’s service has been horrible. The associates sound like they don’t know what they’re talking about and they don’t seem very professional at all.
I wish I had applied to a different bank.
I do have an account number but then they asked for a copy of my drivers license on Jan 11. As of today, Jan 14, I still cannot log in. I am fed up but they are one of the few banks with a high interest rate that will download into Quicken.
I have come this far, therefore, I intend to see this through.
