Acacia Checking Account Pays 1% To All

This deal is good on balances up to $250,000.Yesterday, we told you about Acacia Federal Savings Bank’s top 6-month CD rates. This online bank also has a competitive checking account that pays 1.00% APY to savers nationwide.

The Metro Checking account pays a bit less than top rewards checking accounts, but it doesn’t have nearly the restrictions or balance limitations that you’ll find at places like Consumers Credit Union, which pays 4.09% APY on balances up to $10,000 with requirements like a minimum of 12 monthly debit card transactions.

At Acacia (, based in Falls Church, Va., you’ll earn 1% on balances up to $250,000.

To avoid a monthly $15 service charge, you must keep a $1,000 minimum daily balance. And you must sign up for eStatements and choose between setting up direct deposit or making three online bill-pay transactions per month to earn the top yield.

A customer service representative told me anyone can apply online for the account. However, the bank, which is owned by Acacia Life Insurance Co., warns on its website that it “reserves the right to permit accounts only from the DC metro area which is VA, MD, and the District of Columbia.”

This checking account offer ranks among the best nationally available bank deals we’ve seen this year.

If you’re looking for a higher yield, consider the checking account at Bank of Internet, which pays up to 1.25% APY.

If you’re looking for a rate guarantee, EverBank has a promotional 6-month checking rate of 1.05% APY for first-time account holders.
