A Steady Few Weeks For 3-Year CD Rates

AmTrust Direct continues to offer the best nationally available deal. The top five nationally available 3-year CD rates have remained unchanged since Jan. 24.

Of course, this speaks to the leveling of rate cuts we mentioned last month.

AmTrust Direct (www.amtrustdirect.com) continues to lead the term on our CD Rates Leaderboard.

The online division of Cleveland-based AmTrust Bank, a division of New York Community Bank, pays 1.55% APY on 36-month CDs with a $1,000 minimum deposit.

The second-highest rate of 1.50% comes from two banks:

Doral Bank Direct (www.doralbankdirect.com), the online bank of Doral Bank, the leading community bank in Puerto Rico that also has five branches in northwest Florida and two in New York City, which requires a $1,000 minimum deposit.

KeySource Commercial Bank (www.keysourcebank.com), which has a single branch in Durham, N.C., and requires a $100 minimum deposit for CDs purchased in person, over the phone or through the mail, and a $5,000 minimum deposit for CDs purchased online.

Two banks offer the third-best rate of 1.46% APY, and one bank isn’t far behind:

Broadway Federal Bank (www.broadwayfed.com), which has five branches in Los Angeles and Inglewood, Calif., and requires a $500 minimum deposit.

CIT Bank (www.bankoncit.com), the online consumer bank of CIT Group Inc., which offers financing to small businesses and middle-market companies and requires a $1,000 deposit.

Virtual Bank (www.virtualbank.com), the online division of Sabadell United Bank based in Miami, which offers 1.41% APY and requires a $10,000 minimum deposit.

Lastly, two banks pay 1.40% APY:

Atlantic Coast Bank (www.atlanticcoastbank.net), which has 11 branches in northeast Florida and southeast Georgia and requires a $1,000 minimum deposit.

Nationwide Bank (www.nationwide.com), an online bank owned by Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company and its affiliates, which requires a $500 minimum deposit.

Large banks and thrifts offer an average annual yield of 0.70% APY for 36-month CDs.

These banks qualify for our rankings by imposing no restrictions on who can buy their certificates of deposit, either online or through the mail.

Compare these returns with the best CD rates from scores of banks in our extensive database.
