A Good Balance Transfer Card Got Better

One of our favorite credit cards for balance transfers has gotten even better.

When we wrote about the Citi Platinum Select MasterCard last summer it offered 0% interest for up to 18 months.

Now Citi is giving new cardholders 21 interest-free months. That’s the most generous deal on balance transfers that we’ve found.

The transfer fee is still 3% of the debt you’re moving from another card, which is not quite as punishing as the 4% or 5% other cards tag you with.

After the introductory period is over, the interest rate will be a variable 11.99%, 15.99% or 19.99%, depending on your credit. (That’s the prime rate plus 8.74%, 12.74% or 16.74%.)

The “best” rate of 11.99% is two percentage points higher than it was last summer, but the other two interest rates remain the same.

In addition, you’ll pay no interest on new purchases for a full 12 months, there’s no annual fee and you only need “good” credit to qualify.
