HSBC Bank has released HSBC’s version of the Citi Dividends credit card. The Direct Rewards Platinum MasterCard gives pays a cash rebate.
5% back on gas, grocery and drugstore purchases.
Earn up to 1% cash back on all other purchases.
Looks like a good card to turn to when you max out your yearly rebate limits on your Dividends credit card.

Sounds like a good deal at first. But you have to keep using it to take advantage of this offer. So eventually the banks will make money from you.
I called HSBC. They don’t have a 5% cash back card.

Replaced with a 1% card. It’s gone, just like citibanks.
I just got the card a couple weeks ago after my Citi card went to 2%, and the terms clearly stated 5% cash back on gas, groceries, and pharmacies, just like Citi used to have. So it’s still available.
they require you to fill out much information in order to determine which card is best for you. when done, they offer you less attractive ones.

I actually have an HSBC 5% card and have been using it for about 3-4 months already. I applied online without any hassles. I’ve heard from other people that they’ve gotten denied for this card though. I’m assuming they base qualification on income level, credit history, etc. My household income is average, but I have a high FICO score so I’m assuming that helped.
I applied a few months back just like Eric above after the Citi Dividends MC went from 5% to 2% on grocery, drugstore, convenience store, and gas purchases. Although it’s not on HSBC’s website, except a 1% card, I applied through another different website several months ago and it worked. The information states the terms of 5% on grocery, drugstore, and gas purchases, but it’s an annual reward, not monthly.
Since there’s no website that shows the 5% reward that I can find anymore, I recommend you call the Customer Service number on the back of my Direct Rewards Platinum MC 800-379-7999 and ask for further details on the card. This card is issued by HSBC Bank Nevada, N.A.

i applied months ago but hadn’t used the card… since Chase has now dropped their rewards from 5% to 2%, i will go with this card from now on.
not sure if you can still get a new one. but i was assured the 5% DOES still apply.

HSBC has a 5% cashback card BUT it has a $39.00 Annual Fee.
Washing Mutual (shittiest bank on earth) claims to give 5% cash-back rewards on all grocery store purchases - so far it’s been zero percent! Since I have called, emailed and complained multiple times to them (usually get routed to their call center in the philippines) my rewards summary has dissappeared from my account statement. I hate them!
