36-Month CD Rates Top Out At 2.60%

Alliance Bank is still offering the best nationally available return on 36-month CDs.

But the community bank with 23 branches in central New York is now paying 2.60% APY with a $1,000 minimum deposit, down from 2.75% in April.

Alliance Bank is still offering the best nationally available 36-month CD rates.EBSBdirect, which had shared the lead with Alliance, continues to offer 2.75% APY, but has limited new deposits to local residents.

The other top nationally available rates on 3-year certificates of deposit are:

2.50% APY with a $2,500 minimum deposit from Tennessee Commerce Bank, a single branch in Franklin, Tenn. It no longer posts rates on its Web site. You must call (877) 684-2265.

2.42% with a $1,000 minimum deposit from Bank of Internet, an online financial institution based in San Diego, Calif.

2.35% with a $500 minimum deposit from Acacia Federal Savings Bank, an online subsidiary of the Acacia Life Insurance Company in Falls Church, Va.

All of those rates are substantially higher than the average return on 36-month CDs, which dropped to a record low 1.50% in Bankrate’s most recent weekly survey of major banks.
