3 Great CD Rate Specials Top Out At 2.5%

Connecticut quarterLiberty Bank has a trio of special CD rates for Connecticut savers – and there isn’t a bad one in the bunch.

With a $1,000 minimum deposit of new money, it pays:

  • 2.00% APY for 36-month CDs.
  • 2.25% APY for 48-month CDs.
  • 2.50% APY for 60-month CDs.

The 36-month special beats the top nationally available offer on our CD Rates Leaderboard by more than half of a percentage point.

We wrote about an identical 3-year offer from this bank in the fall of 2011. At the time, Liberty beat the best nationally available deal by just a tenth of a percentage point.

Meanwhile, the 60-month special is a quarter of a percentage point higher than its leader.

Unfortunately, Liberty has added another hurdle in addition to its demand you use money not already on deposit. You’ll also need to have a checking account with this bank to get these rates.

We don’t care for bank offers with this many strings attached, but we felt these CD specials were too good not to mention.

You also have to be a resident of Connecticut, Washington County in Rhode Island, or Hampden, Hampshire or Worcester counties in Massachusetts to buy these certificates of deposit and visit a branch in person.

Liberty Bank has 49 branches in central and eastern Connecticut as well as along the shoreline.
