3% Checking In Wisconsin, Michigan

pen signing a checkWe’ve found another rewards checking account that pays 3% APY.

We recently wrote about a Texas credit union that pays 3%. Now residents in Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan can land the same rate.

Nicolet Bank, based in Green Bay, Wisconsin, offers that top rate on its Real Rewards Checking account to balances of $15,000.

That’s more than twice as much as you can earn with the best nationally available savings or money market accounts, though you’ll have to do some work to earn that rate with Nicolet Bank.

You’ll need to make at least 10 debit card transactions in a month, receive at least one direct deposit each month of your payroll or Social Security check, sign up for eStatements and use online banking.

If you meet those requirements, you’ll also have up to $15 in ATM fees reimbursed each month. Balance portions greater than $15,000 will earn 0.25% APY. If you don’t meet the requirements, you’ll earn just 0.05% APY for that month.

You don’t need to deposit a certain amount at Nicolet Bank to open your Real Rewards Checking account, and you don’t need to keep a certain amount in the account to earn interest. The account has no monthly service fees.

Nicolet Bank has about two dozen Wisconsin locations and one branch in Michigan.

All Wisconsin residents and residents in 12 Michigan counties can open this account. Those counties are Alger, Baraga, Chippewa, Delta, Dickinson, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw, Luce, Mackinac, Marquette, Menominee, Ontonagon and Schoolcraft.
