3% CD Rate Among Top Nevada Deals

Nevada quarterGreater Nevada Credit Union has done it again.

Just two months after its Bankaholic debut, this credit union is back again with even better CD rates for its 45,000 members in northern Nevada – including an offer that touches 3%.

With a $1,000 minimum deposit, it pays:

  • 1.50% APY for 18-month CDs.
  • 2.00% APY for 24-month CDs.
  • 2.50% APY for 36-month CDs.
  • 3.00% APY for 48-month CDs.

All easily beat the top nationally available CD rates for their corresponding terms on our CD Rates Leaderboard.

But we haven’t seen rates anywhere near 3.00% APY since Pentagon Federal Credit Union paid 3.04% APY for 60-month CDs at the beginning of the year.

We’d have to search the cobwebbed corners of our brains to recall when a bank or credit union paid that much for the 48-month term. Let alone 2.50% APY for 36-month CDs.

That rate beats its term leader by more than a full percentage point.

You have to be a member of Greater Nevada Credit Union to purchase these certificates of deposit.

Membership is open to anyone who lives or works in the northern Nevada counties of Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Lyon, Pershing, Storey, Washoe and White Pine. Current members’ family and household members can also join.

Membership requires a $5 membership fee and a $25 deposit in a share savings account.

Members can buy CDs over the phone or in person at a branch.

There are eight branches in Carson City, Dayton, Ely, Minden, Reno, Sparks and West Wendover.
