this is a not so good chase freedom offer, because it’s different from the original chase freedom card:

You will earn a 1% base rebate or 1 base point for each $1 of net purchases. Each billing cycle, in addition to the base reward you will also earn an additional 2% bonus rebate or 2 bonus points for each $1 of eligible net purchases made at merchant locations in the 3 bonus categories where you have spent the most.

Hi, does anyone know if they will give you the $50 even if you already have an “Amazon” Chase credit card? It says it applies only for new card members, but I was wondering if that refers to this specific card (i.e. Freedom) or to any other Chase credit card.
Thanks!

Great site, btw.

I signed up for this card in August of 2007. I was originally given a 0% purchase APR and 0% Balance transfer for 6 months. So when I checked my credit card statement for September 2007 they charged me a finance charge for carrying a balance, so I called them. They said that I only have 0% balance transfer for 6 months and my purchase apr was 9.99%. WTF?! Did anyone else have this problem with CHASE manhatten credit cards. I then asked for the fax number so I can send my credit card agreement that said I had 0% purchase APR for 6 months the person who helped me hung up. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM?

TO CHRIS–YOU NEED TO TAKE ACTION AND CALL CHASE AGAIN. BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING, GET THE PERSON’S NAME AND PHONE/FAX NUMBER. THEN TELL HIM/HER YOUR STORY AND TELL THEM YOU WILL FAX THE CONTRACT, THEN SAY NOTHING. LET THE PERSON TALK. AFTER THEY’VE SAID WHATEVER, YOU THEN NEED TO ASK FOR THE SUPERVISOR’S NAME, PHONE NUMBER AND FAX TOO. DO NOT BE CONFRONTATIONAL. LEAVE YOUR EMOTIONS OUT OF IT. YOU THEN NEED TO GO TO THE US SENATE BANKING COMMITTEE 202-224-7391 AND FIND OUT WHO HANDLES BANKING COMPLAINTS AND TELL THAT PERSON YOUR EXPERIENCE. THEN WRITE A HARD COPY LETTER TO THE CHAIRMAN, SENATOR CHRIS DODD, (D) CT, AND I PROMISE YOU WILL GET A RESPONSE (BUT IT MAY TAKE A WHILE). DO ME A FAVOR AND TRY TO CONTROL YOUR EMOTIONS. I WENT THROUGH THE SAME EXACT THING WITH CITIBANK AND I ENDED UP WITH A FORMAL LETTER OF APOLOGY. I WAS TOLD BY THEM THAT CALLERS ARE AUTOMATICALLY RATED BY THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS. IF YOUR SCORE INDICATES YOU’RE AN EXPLOSIVE NUT, THEY WILL NOT HELP YOU. WHEN YOU WRITE DODD, BE SURE TO CC CHASE WITH THEIR SUPERVISOR’S NAME AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LETTER. THEN SEND THE LETTER TO BOTH THE CEO AND THE SUPERVISOR. IFTHE CHASE CEO GETS A LETTER FROM ONE PERSON LIKE YOU COMPLAINING WITH A CC TO SENATOR DODD, I ASSURE YOU, YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU NEED. I KNOW IT’S A HASSLE, BUT YOU WILL HELP PREVENT OTHER PEOPLE FROM GOING THROUGH WHAT YOU DID. GOOD LUCK. ONE LAST COMMENT.:THINGS HAVE CHANGED IN THIS COUNTRY. NOT VERY LONG AGO, IF YOU CALLED A COMPANY TO COMPLAIN, YOU WEREN’T HUNG ON. THEY DIDN’T DARE. BUT NOW THEY DO. INCOMING CALLS ARE RECORDED BUT THE PERSON YOU SPEAK WITH WILL DOCUMENT THAT THE HANG-UP WAS “ACCIDENTAL”. SPRINT IS GOOD AT THIS AND SO ARE LOTS OF OTHER BIG COMPANIES/UTILITY COMPANIES. AGAIN, GOOD LUCK.

Very unhappy with new Chase Freedom card. They claim to offer 3% rebate on the top 3 of 15 categories, but my account details never recognized the categories on my bill - hence no 3%. One merchant they did not recognize is Smith’s supermarket - one of the largest chains in the southwest, and a store recognized as a grocery from regular Chase cards that we have. So, the problem is on their end. Did not get much help from customer service - no surprise, and slow. Will probably get rid of the card after I pay my first bill. It looks good, but seems to be a cheat.
