Washington Mutual Bank 6.00% 13-Month CD

Apparently, Washington Mutual (WaMu) is running in-branch only promotions in certain states for a 13-month 6.00% CD account rate.

You should inquire at your local Washington Mutual Bank to see if they have this bank promotion. Be sure to leave a comment if you find a bank that does!

    The 6% special is in NY, NJ, CT, TX, IL & GA. But all states are featuring great rates - I believe CA is at 5.85% for 13M also.

    Unfortunately, the Flemington, NJ WaMu branch manager insisted I would have to open a checking account in order to get the 6% APY CD. I called the national office and they said there was no such requirement. I called the Flemington branch back and they refused to budge. They branch manager said I shouldn’t have any objections to this requirement because I would not have to make any transactions on the checking account for 13 months. When I asked if I could see any of these rules in writing, they said they had nothing in writing. I won’t be banking with them!

    I had a CD with Washington Mutual and after I received a letter from them about the Maturity I called the branch and told them that I do not want to renew it. I went personally on 11th calender day and they charged 3 month’s interest as penalty. I think they should have just charged 1 day’s interest or at the most 10 day’s interest as penalty. I fought with the branch manager and it was of no use. In the WaMu CD rules nowhere it is cleraly mentioned how much penalty they should charge.
    Can anyone help me?

    There was so much legal jargon to read, rules, possible fees, etc. that I quit on the application form. I can work with World Savings much easier and get very good paper information from them. When they make it so difficult, it is too much work for too little interest! Capital One gives 5% on money market (APY) and you can add to and take out so much easier. Also, when will they stop making you put your Social Security No. on line, too much risk. I even get checks on Cap One money market account.
