Security Savings Bank is offering a 17-month certificate of deposit that tops most 24-month CD rates.
It pays 2.47% APY with a minimum deposit of only $500 and is available for IRAs.
This is a great example of how banks often offer their best rates on odd-term CDs that don’t mature in the traditional six, 12 or 24 months.
Not only is this rate almost a full point higher than the national average of 1.51% APY for 24-month CDs, it’s only a tenth-point less than the top-paying 24-month CD from Frontier Bank.
Although this special is available nationwide, Security Savings is not taking online applications.
You have to call a customer service representative at 1-800-323-8958, or visit one of its 10 Kansas branches.
Use our extensive database of CD rates to compare Security Savings’ special with the best deals from scores of banks.
Although the average return for all types of certificates of deposit are near record lows right now, CD rates had their best week of the year in our latest survey of large banks and thrifts.
